From Larry Dark: Howdy

We had our Trophy shoot this past Saturday . I don’t have all of the winners but Marc Christian was the big dog with a 95. Congrats Marc.

**UPCOMING LEAGUE**WE WILL BE HOSTING A 5 STAND LEAGUE AT CHEROKEE ROD AND GUN CLUB.DATES WILL BE AUGUST 6 TILL SEPTEMBER 17 . THIS IS 7 WEEKS ALL SHOT ON TUESDAY EVENING.  START TIME IS 5P, WE WILL LET THE LEAGUE SHOOTERS HAVE PRIORITY THEN IF SOMEONE WANTS TO SHOOT PRACTICE ROUNDS IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. COST TO SHOOT LEAGUE IS 10.00 PER NIGHT . PRACTICE ROUNDS 3.50

We shoot two rounds of 25 for score (bring a few extra shells if you miss your single you can shoot a second time and if you break the target on the second shot it counts for score). Out of the 7 consecutive weeks we will use your 5 best for score. Dropping 2 low scores allows a shooter to miss a night or two and still be competitive. There aren’t going to be teams, every one will be shooting as an individual. We will have trophies for High Gun, AA, A, B, C, and D classes. There is no handicap for sub gauge in this league. We will make an adjustment to at least one thrower each week , just to keep it interesting.

After you shoot league, the upper ranges will be open for our regular Tuesday evening practice if you want to get in a little trap and skeet. We will have more info as the time draws near. If you know of someone that would like to shoot in this league, even if they are not a member of Cherokee please invite them to come out and participate. If you have any questions about the league please feel free to contact Rodney Meade, Bobby Marshall, or myself Larry Dark.

Tuesday 7/23 Open practice on the hill. We shoot trap and skeet and the ranges will be open by 4:30p . We shoot till everyone’s had enough. This is a good time to get started if your new to the shotgun clay target game. Just bring your gun and shells come on out and get on a squad. If your not sure how skeet and trap works….just ask someone. Every body at Cherokee is more than happy to help get you started.

Friday 7/26 Arts Old Codgers will be on the hill sharpening their already well honed skills with a shotgun. They will get started by 9a and shoot till around midday (or naptime) they welcome new shooters if your off on Friday come on out and jump in

Saturday 7/27 Fourth Saturday means Five Stand. This is a practice course for sporting clays, one of the fastest growing shotgun sports in America. You have all kinds of presentations from rabbits on the ground to springing teal shooting straight up. I think most of the guys that shoot 5 stand regularly will say the same thing , “its addictive” . It can be very humbling but once you figure a target out and can break it fairly consistently its very rewarding. We will be ready for shooters by 9a and will go till everyone runs out of ammo. Usually around 3-4p . Bring lots of shells and an improved cylinder to light modified choke and you will be ready.
